Below, I\u2019ve listed a selection of steamboat destinations that I can personally recommend. It\u2019s also worth noting right away that the list is not in any particular order. Some of the vessels will already arrive at Jokiasema on Friday, 10 July, but the main day of the event is Saturday, 11 July, when the vessels will dock at Joensuu Passenger Port. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the vessels during the open ship hours. For more detailed schedules, it\u2019s best to follow the Finnish Steam Yacht Association on social media (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/suomenhoyrypursiseura\/\">Instagram<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/suomenhoyrypursiseura\/\">Facebook<\/a>) and on their <a href=\"https:\/\/steamship.fi\/\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p3\"><span style=\"color: #111111; font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 22px;\">The Stunning Island of \u00c4rj\u00e4nsaari and s\/s Kouta<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p3\">Have you visited \u00c4rj\u00e4 yet? If not, this is the year to do it. In my opinion, \u00c4rj\u00e4 is one of the finest destinations you can reach by steamboat. The steamboat Kouta (1920\/21) operates cruises from 1 July to 1 August, Wednesday through Saturday. On a day cruise to \u00c4rj\u00e4, you\u2019ll have about two and a half hours on the island\u2014just the right amount of time to explore or simply relax on the sandy beach and go for a swim. As a special highlight this year, Kouta will cruise around the entire lake during the week after Midsummer <a href=\"https:\/\/oulujarviristeilyt.fi\/product\/592\/oulujarven-hoyrylaivateatteri--kiertue----etapit-246-2862026\">together with the Vaara Collective<\/a>. The programme will feature theatre performances both in ports and out on the waters of Ouluj\u00e4rvi. The steamboat Hein\u00e4vesi (1906) operates on Tuesdays from Kuopio to Savonlinna and on Thursdays from Savonlinna to Kuopio. You can travel the full route or choose shorter sections of the journey. So if you\u2019re planning to experience a steamboat on Saimaa this year, Hein\u00e4vesi is an excellent choice \u2013 the route is one of the most beautiful in Finland, and the vessel itself has been continuously improved. <\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s2\">More information can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/saimaanlaivamatkat.fi\/\">shipping company\u2019s website<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p3\">Poet&#8217;s Way and s\/s Tarjanne<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p3\">The steamboat Tarjanne (1908), which has operated the longest continuously on the same route in Finland, will once again run its scheduled service this year between Tampere and Virrat. This year\u2019s season runs from 3 June to mid-August (3 June\u201315 August). On Wednesdays and Fridays, the journey runs from Tampere to Virrat via Ruovesi, and on Thursdays and Saturdays from Virrat to Tampere. The trip can easily be done as a day excursion by combining it with a coach connection by Manninen (Tampere\u2013Ruovesi\u2013Tampere, Tampere\u2013Virrat\u2013Tampere or Ruovesi\u2013Virrat\u2013Ruovesi). The restaurant had to be completely rebuilt during the First World War, when Tarjanne became part of the Russian Satakunta fleet. Suomi operates from Tuesday to Saturday between 2 June and 29 August, so there are plenty of opportunities to hop on board during the summer. As the service itself is quite traditional and hasn\u2019t seen major changes in a while, the biggest point of interest each year is who will be running the engine room!   <\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">More information about Suomi\u2019s cruises is available on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paijanne-risteilythilden.fi\/\">the P\u00e4ij\u00e4nne-Risteilyt Hilden website<\/a>. This would mark an important new opening for traffic on southern Lake Saimaa. With Ollis and Ari \u2013 familiar from s\/s Kouta \u2013 behind the project, the idea of launching regular service with the vessel feels entirely realistic, even though a tremendous amount of restoration work still remains.
